Cold Plunge

Cold plunge, also known as cold-water immersion therapy, has long been used by many cultures to unlock key health benefits. Cold plunge sessions can have a quick and drastic impact on your feelings, health and wellbeing — releasing endorphins improving your mood, boosting energy levels, reducing inflammation, and strengthening your immune system.

Cold plunge is a form of hydrotherapy in which a person immerses themselves in cold water for a brief period of time. It is often used as a therapeutic or recreational activity and can have several potential health benefits.

Breathing makes all the difference during your cold plunge experience. Check out the video at the bottom of the page for some Wim Hof breathing techniques to utilize during your plunge.

Here are some key points about cold plunges:

  1. Temperature: A cold plunge typically involves immersing the body in water with a temperature significantly lower than the body’s normal temperature. This water can range from cool to very cold, often between 40°F and 45°F, or even colder.

  2. Duration: The duration of a cold plunge can vary depending on personal preference and tolerance, but we recommend plunging for 2-5 minutes for the most benefits.

  3. Health Benefits:

    • Muscle Recovery: Cold plunges are believed to help reduce muscle soreness and inflammation. Athletes and fitness enthusiasts often use them as part of their recovery routine.
    • Improved Circulation: Exposure to cold water can stimulate blood circulation and promote the constriction of blood vessels (vasoconstriction), which may have a positive effect on overall circulation.
    • Stress Reduction: Cold immersion can trigger the release of endorphins and other feel-good hormones, potentially reducing stress and improving mood.
    • Boosted Immunity: Some people believe that regular cold plunges can strengthen the immune system over time.

Before You Plunge

Before your plunge, we recommend taking cold showers for a few days leading up to your plunge. Start with a few minutes in the shower and gradually work your way up. We also suggest practicing Wim Hof breathing techniques, seen in the YouTube video below. This will train your body and mind to continue normal breathing during your session.
